What is power supply unit?
A power supply unit (or PSU) converts power i.e voltage from the mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of an electronics current using devices.
we have two types of power supply unit which are; linear power supply, switch mode power supply (smps) e.g for example Modern personal computers universally use switched-mode power supplies. Some power supplies have a manual switch for selecting input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the mains voltage.
but I will like to expanse on Linear power supply unit i.e A Rectification circuit of 5v power supply
Voltage Regulated IC Lm7805
16 or 25v by 1000uf capacitor
bridge rectifier or combination of 4 diodes
12v stepdown transformer
breaking down of the meaning or what the component used is;
A Transformer is a component that has two coils and produce voltage at the other coil through electromagnetic induction when a voltage source is applied to one of it coil without change in phase.
AC SOURCE(Alternating current)
I will define AC with this three properties
- The current changes direction
- The voltage changes polarity
- it has frequency.
A Fuse is an over current sacrificial devices which got blown off when the fuse current is exceeded. it also has different rating of 5A, 10A e.t.c
A Switch is a component that can be used to make and break contact between two connections.
A Diode is component which allow current flows in one direction when it is forward biased and blocks reverse current.
A resistor is an electronic component that limit the flow of current in a circuit.
VOLTAGE REGULATED (IC)
these are used for regulating D.C voltage to a value indicated on the I.C.examples of this I.C are; lm7805, lm7806, lm7809, lm7905, lm7906 e.t.c.
An electronic component that store charges temporarily is known as capacitor.
